taken from Mac OS 10.6 (Snow Leopard) will be Intel only…

I have my doubts about 10.6 going Intel only.

I should rephrase. If 10.6 is to be released Jan 09 at MWSF, I have my doubts about 10.6 going Intel only. Why would Apple expend the effort to make 10.5 a universal installation only to go down this rumored route so soon after? With OS X currently targeting three different architectures, I’d be surprised if Apple were already trying to ween out PPC support. Instead, Apple seems to be embracing its OpenStep heritage.

Another interesting tidbit, we still don’t know Apple’s plans regarding their purchase of P.A. Semi. Buying a PPC chip designer would seem to be yet another strike against killing PPC support so early.

I can believe the next version of OS X will focus on speed, stability, and fuller features for Cocoa and Core frameworks. 64bit only? Sure. I still would be surprised to see 10.6 ship so quickly. Didn’t Apple announce that Leopard would signify the turning point towards less frequent releases of major reivisons to OS X?
