Re: VMware Fusion 2.0 beta

FWIW, I ran the Fusion 1.x betas from very early on and they were quite solid. I'll probably grab the 2.0 beta when I finish off some ongoing projects and can archive the VMs.

Re: Are you a partitioner?

Nope. It made sense with HFS when the block size on large disks was large. With HFS+ (or any modern file system) I don't see any reason.

Export it as a PSD from Illustrator (File->Export->Photoshop IIRC) and make sure the retain layers option is selected.

That article is a bit old. In 10.4.x, you should add any virtual host settings to: /etc/httpd/users/<username>.conf Host settings continue to go in: /etc/hosts So for name-based virtualhosting you'd have an entry like this in <username>.conf <VirtualHost *:80> ServerName localDomainName DocumentRoot...

DDR2 Laptop Memory Prices in Freefall

2GB SO DDR2 DIMMs were ~$550 3 months ago, now ~$120 and they seem to be dropping 5 or 10 bucks every few days. I wonder how low they can go?

I think Cunning Fox lists just applications, not all processes. Launch the Activity Monitor instead (Applications -> Utilities -> Activity Monitor) and Select "All Processes" in the popup menu.

I don't know what it is about the finder that sucks, but it does. I've never stopped to figure it out, but IMHO the navigation to files is better in windows and OS9. There was an "ask Tog" site that discussed all the technical details about why the finder sucks, and I remember agreeing with all of ...

Don't bother submitting the site to the search engines, they'll find you, but getting listed in DMOZ is worth the effort. Follow the instructions here carefully:

http://dmoz.org/add.html

and be patient. If you're not listed within 6 months or so, try again.

I never understood why one would want to replace the finder. Isn't that akin to boarding up your front window? I'm with Jimbo. Whats' wrong with the Finder? Most of the Finder replacements fall short compared to the Finder. A couple of the big deficiencies: - No disclosure triangles for folders - F...

Sounds nice. You're using an e-SATA enclosure for some of the drives? Do you feel like the RAID for the boot disk gets you much of a performance boost? That'd be mainly from Photoshop's scratch space being striped?

So has Blu-Ray won the DVD format wars? I can't even remember the name of the other, competing format. LOL, HD-DVD. Ah, thanks. From a (very) casual observation point, it sure seems like Blu-Ray is winning. I never see the other format, never even hear of it anymore. Oh yeah? well does Blu-Ray have...

Am I mistaken when I compare this activation scheme to Photoshop checking for other versions of its serial # on LANs, and closing if it sees any? IIRC, you can even move the license of the retail version of XP to a completely new machine, so M$ shouldn't give you any grief about it.

Can't vouch for it, but this app, when the Quicktime MPEG2 component is loaded, claims to handle the kind of files that the Sony spits out. It also has information on cap'ing the MPEG files (look at the last paragraph in the COMPATIBILITY section): http://www.squared5.com/svideo/mpeg-streamclip-mac....

There's lots of free, very good, MPEG2 utilities for the PC. The combo of DGMPGDec & AVISynth is way better than ...

I've seen that sort of rendering in mediawiki (the software that runs wikipedia) but usually only in the footer: http://pangram.org/images/wiki2.png I don't think it's a problem with FF's text engine, but rather some weird effect of the styling of the links. FWIW, that page ( FF friendly link ) rend...
