Sort of a self-portrait sitting on my car, circa 1973. This VW had a six volt battery and it was almost dead. I was too cheap to buy another one, and they were hard to find, so I had to park it on a hill and push start it. Eventually, I got another half-ass battery from a junkyard for $5 and it was strong enough to start the car.....sometimes.

Brutal.

Sometimes mine does a swipe, but more often it's the Nuke™: the pull-in by the fronts, with a tearing kick-out by the rears. It would be a good shredded chicken process to make tacos. Thank god she doesn't ever drop the Tsar Bomba™ which is the Nuke™ + biting, which some cats do.
My cat Pillowpants (see avatar) is the most chill kitty ever. He's never scratched me, not even once, not even by accident. He's a snuggler, not a fighter.

Had a cat that bit my hand.
Operative word is had.

Hold a pillow case open on the floor.
Cats curiosity will cause it to explore inside.
Close case, capture cat and lift.
It will relax like its falling.
Do what you will.

I could never get others to hike that whole thing with me. Piece by piece is really the way to do that unless you're twenty. Easy to tell how much you enjoy dogs. :)
I bought that book forty years ago!

I was about twenty two, and yes we did it in two parts. I di not have the befit of your book.
Originally I had couple friends lined up for Berkshires, but they chickened out, so I talked my then girlfriend into doing two segments an two weeks.
The first time I pick up USGS maps from Rand McNally map store off Lexington. It showed a village, a settlement at the end of the first segment. we planned to replenish our food supplies over there. The maps were 50 years old. Not even chimneys.
We were lucky the dogs saddlebacks were loaded with extra rice.

Learned my lesson, never trust the maps.

The last part we did, we were married and she was four months pregnant.
There is one thing about Slavic women, she carried that and a backpack.
Yes, I did carry a bit more, but it was her call.....

Couple years later, deer season, outside Lake Placid, mid 70's, moustache period..

Nice story Max! I had no idea women could really be that tough? Society frowns on it today I guess? Great photo, you nailed the look you were going for. :)

Freaking maps, I know of which you speak as a simple misprint added 1,000 foot more climb than I once expected.
