For people who want to customise their multi-touch gestures (such as the three- finger swipes, rotate and zoom) for a lot of applications that don't utilise the gestures, you might want to try Multiclutch.

I've found it very useful for browsers other than Safari, to "attach" the back/forward swipes to the back/forward keystroke, so that no matter what browser you use, you can still swipe back and forward.

If, like me, you consider iTunes as overkill for some audio listening needs (I actually think it's becoming bloatware, sorry Apple), there's a really good audio player called Vox (formerly known as ToolPlayer). It's well thought out and it's developer continues to improve it.

I still use iTunes to access my main music library, but for everything else I use Vox. It's free.

I'm pretty impressed at how easy it was to clone my Boot Camp volume using Winclone. It's also free.

I had high hopes for Songbird, but the devs ended up going for features and not size/speed. It's large and unwieldy. Pity.

matt,
That was always the problem with Songbird. The developers were clearly inclined to slowly but surely build an iPod/RhythmBox/AmaroK clone. Oh well, a laudable goal I'm sure, then again, why not just work on porting AmaroK from KDE Linux to OS X? I think QT (oops) KDE will build on other OSes now so porting AmaroK shouldn't be impossible.

If you're an EyeTV user, ComSkip is a very helpful tool. It attempts to mark the commercial breaks in every EyeTV recording, and is quite adept at doing so. It isn't perfect, but there are times where it marks the commercials without error. Correcting it's mistakes is easy, and it's far better than starting from scratch when it comes to editing out commercials in your EyeTV recordings.

I record quite a few TV shows on my Mac via EyeTV, and ComSkip has made watching those recordings much easier. It's free.

For those using the Alarm Clock App, make sure and check "Wake computer from Sleep" in the "advanced" preference panel.

Just a note that the current version of Comskip doesn't load in Snow Leopard.

Also make sure you don't have "Require password to wake this computer.." set in the Security System preferences panel, nor "Log out after ___ minutes of inactivity".

This way your Mac will hopefully be as reliable as a dedicated system.

GasMask is a free utility for editing the "hosts" file in Mac OS X.

If you're curious as to why you might want to edit your "hosts" file, you can learn more here.

Thanks for that tip. I've been looking for an Audion replacement ever since Panic killed it - maybe this is it.
